View and book available dates for this course This course is suitable for qualified therapists only, with an NVQ Level 3 in A&P and Massage such as ITEC or VTCT. You must sign a form to confirm that you hold A&P and Massage qualifications as required and are professionally insured.
Everybody gets back ache at some point, but for many it can come to rule their lives. It may seem obvious, but back massage is so fundamental to the massage therapist, we need to stay up to date with effective treatment methods, helping us to receive good feedback from our clients time after time. Also, when it comes to backs and spines, therapists need to know how to assess properly and work safely, so in- depth training is essential.
In this workshop you will learn;
- Advanced anatomy of the affected area, essential if you are to know what to treat and why
- The importance of the chest muscles and abdominals in the treatment of mid and lower back pain and injuries
- How to identify the source of the problem with a comprehensive case history
- Common disorders of the area such as, scoliosis, lordosis and chronic tension. Why they occur, how these conditions affect the sufferer and what effects they have on other structures of the body
- To understand how pain affects our stretch reflexes and why that matters
- How to assess correctly, using postural analysis, range-of-movement and a variety of orthopaedic tests, so that treatment can be safe and effective
- How to use your elbows, forearms and even feet to reduce fatigue and prevent injury on your hands
- How to use simple, safe and effective exercises and stretches in combination with massage to release muscular tension, help maintain correct posture and prevent mid and low back injury
- How to use techniques such as, deep tissue massage, myofascial technique and trigger point work, as well as suitable passive stretching, which will have a lasting effect
- How to offer the client appropriate aftercare and further treatment or referral if necessary
