75% of this year's massage students gained an overall distinction with Inspire

The ITEC QCF Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Massage is a fully accredited, level 3 diploma linked to National Occupational Standards.  It is the most comprehensive massage training of its type and importantly, it is the best recognised complementary therapy qualification in the UK and across a range of countries.

We are not only experienced at teaching ITEC diplomas for many years, we are all passionate and committed massage therapists, who also have a variety of other therapy skills.  We can add the depth of our experience to your learning and all of our teaching is in the context of how you can use these skills to help people. We use as many interactive learning methods as possible to make the material come to life. We teach everything in the context of what the therapist needs to know to not only be effective, but to enjoy working with people.

As well as teaching you how to massage superbly, we can open up the world of networking with others across the complementary field.  We’ll show you how to work safely and seek advice from the medical profession when necessary.  We’ll guide you to research material to help with your ongoing learning.

The ITEC Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Massage Course Structure

The course is taught at weekends in two day blocks with gaps in between.  It gives us time to support individual students with their learning. As well as teaching days, students will be given a manageable number of home study assignments, important for those of you who have families and/or are working.

This course is suitable for those with or without a science background and attendance dates are spread out to make learning more manageable.  Each course day is concluded with a revision to bring everything together and answer your questions. This is an ideal blend of immersion in intensive study with breaks in between to allow you time to assimilate the material and complete home study assignments.

Tutors are available at the beginning and end of each teaching day as a form of tutorial and also by email, as we are passionate about the courses we run and take pride in our student support, both whilst on the course and on an ongoing basis.

ITEC Diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology Content

The unit covers not only all the required body systems required by ITEC as an external examining board, but does so in a way to show how the system works, how it can go wrong and how we help with recovery. It covers pathologies of body systems and how we as therapists can work safely and effectively.

The structure, function and pathologies of systems covered are:

  • The skeleton - bones and joints
  • Muscles, fascia and connective tissue
  • Respiration and health
  • The heart, circulation and lymphatics
  • Cells and the skin
  • Nerves, responses and the brain
  • Digestion and metabolism
  • Liver, kidney and urinary function
  • Endocrine – hormones, homeostasis and their role in reproductive health
  • Healthy eating to support the body's systems
  • Learning will be supported by notes, which will include revision tips, details of other learning resources such as research websites and suggested books to help you.

ITEC Diploma in Massage Content

This course will not only show you how to put together a full massage treatment, but will help to make your anatomy knowledge come to life. We’ll teach you:

  • Health & Safety legislation and clinic hygiene
  • Taking a client history
  • Indications and contraindications and staying safety
  • Assessing treatment objectives
  • Understanding the specific benefits of massage movements
  • Referring to other professionals where necessary
  • Carrying out a full treatment
  • Treatment reactions and aftercare advice
  • Reflective practise and how to maintain ongoing client care
  • How to maintain good working posture and good therapist health

A key element to our teaching is to establish good working habits at the training stage. This includes posture and mobility of the therapist which we get right, which is why we are busy working therapists with over eighteen years pain-free treatment experience each.  Learning will be supported by a comprehensive manual, which will include revision tips, details of other learning resources such as research websites and suggested books to help you. It will contain all the information you will need relating to ITEC’s examination process and your tutor will guide you through what you need to know.
