As massage therapists we are often asked to relieve clients of ‘a pain in the neck’
Whether the cause is bad posture, whiplash, long hours at a desk, stress or driving, it is important that we have the knowledge, understanding and skills to help clients with neck and shoulder pain.
In this hands-on practical workshop you will learn:
- Advanced anatomy of the affected area, essential if you are to know what to treat and why
- How to identify the source of the problem with a comprehensive case history
- Common disorders of the area such as, migraine, torticollis, whiplash and frozen shoulder. Why they occur, how these conditions affect the sufferer and what effects they have on other structures of the body
- To understand how pain affects our stretch reflexes and why that matters
- How to assess correctly, using postural analysis, range-of-movement and a variety orthopaedic tests, so that treatment can be safe and effective
- How to use techniques such as, deep tissue massage, soft tissue release and trigger point work, as well as suitable passive stretching, which will have a lasting effect
- How to offer the client appropriate aftercare and further treatment or referral if necessary
The course tutor Wendy Allen is a very gifted teacher, who manages to combine a vast wealth of practical knowledge with an easygoing and entertaining teaching style. She is an osteopath with her own practice in Surrey. She's also a very experienced sports therapist and has taught on sports therapy diplomas for over a decade. As well as being an accomplished athlete herself, she is still called upon to accompany RAF teams on overseas visits as a therapist.
